Wednesday Wisdom: How do I get anonymous feedback?

04/01/2023

Today's Wednesday Wisdom is brought to you by Indra Books of Agility for All. Do you have a question? Post it in the comments.

Today's question is our first of the new Wednesday Wisdom series and was asked in our year end poll on what you want to hear from us. It is "how do you get anonymous feedback from your teams or teammates?"

First of all, I would encourage you to work on building up the safety of the team so that everyone feels empowered and safe to bring up any feedback as and when it is needed whether it be with the entire group or one-to-one.

They should not need it to be anonymous to feel comfortable in giving it, but until you get to that point, or if you have a specific reason that it needs to be anonymous, let's explore some options. In today's digital world, it is very difficult to not leave a footprint. Everything is tagged and labeled.

However, there are still some ways to do it. You can create virtual whiteboard spaces where the commenter doesn't have to log on. For example in Google spaces, if you just send everyone a link, they are represented as animals when they are adding information and not by their names. There are also tools like Mentimeter, where you can have everyone participate without leaving their name or Slido, where they can enter questions they have, and others can upvote the importance. If you are in person, you can even go old school and have a suggestion box.

Because this form is meant to be a quick answer this likely won't cover the entire topic but feel free to ask more questions and we will post the answers if people are interested.

And that is today's Wednesday wisdom. Don't forget if you have a question post it in the comments. Tune in next week for our next segment.
