  This question actually came from one of our consultants during a team meeting. "How can I help more people have an innovative mindset?" 

Here are some of the suggestions that I provided in that conversation. I'm sure you have others. Give everyone opportunities to share ideas. Include your team members in the decision on what mechanisms will help with that. 

Create a culture of experimentation so that they don't feel stressed if their idea doesn't materialize as expected. Create an experimentation backlog and discuss and prioritize ideas. Have the person with the idea, get the chance to lead the initiative. 

Give people the chance to upskill by joining another team on a temporary duty assignment so they can learn new things. 

And create 80/20 time where they get 20% of their time each week for professional development or to work on new ideas. They can develop ideas or skills and then pitch their idea. And if selected, they can lead the product. Keep these short; six month max gigs. It builds layers of skills and leadership too.
